Production Updates, New Colours and More, Oh My!!

Production Updates, New Colours and More, Oh My!!

ZERO is nearing completion, NAB 2017, New Colours Available and More!

We know the wait has not been easy but fear not, we are getting very close to being finished. Going through the production motions for the first time certainly has it's share of complications and there are a lot of moving parts that all need to come together to deliver a truly outstanding product. For those of you that have already pre-ordered ZERO, thank you so much for your outstanding support and patience. We promise it will be worth it. For those who have been waiting, now is the time to preorder!!!

The machining process is scheduled to be completed by the middle of next week, and then it is off to the anodizers for surface finishing and laser engraving. After that it is just a day or two to assemble and ship!

To stay ahead of the curve we sent some sample parts to the surface finishers last week before the production batch gets there to test out our new Satin Black colour scheme and get the engraving right.

We think it turned out amazing!

We think that the Black looks so good that we have decided to expand our color offerings to include the Gunmetal Grey you are familiar with and now an ultra sexy Satin Black finish. For those of you who have already pre-ordered ZERO before the Satin Black option was available, don't worry, just send us an email to info@brokenanchordesign.com with your colour preference. And for all you new customers, just select your colour at checkout.

We are also very excited to see that our packaging is complete and on its way to us. We had poured a lot of effort into every part of your experience with ZERO. Beginning with our initial concepts of creating a tool-less, universal and ergonomic lens gear and through to the final packaging, we have not skimmed over any detail.

To ensure that the arm hinges work perfectly, and the screws never loosen, we had to manufacture custom shoulder screws, about the size of a ball point pen tip to our precise requirements(less than 1/1000th of an inch clearance). These are the kinds of lengths we've gone to, to ensure that ZERO truly stands out as the best damn lens gear in the world.

Packaging is done!!

And Our Final Announcement Today!

Production Progress

Production Progress

Production is underway and coming along well.

We spent some time in the shop with our manufacturers last week and are very excited to see Zero coming along so well. Everything is on schedule for shipping in march. The guys are working hard and have incredible talent in CNC manufacturing, ensuring all the parts are within the tight tolerances and finishing requirements we need to deliver a truly beautiful product. The parts are coming out amazingly well. Here is a quick little video we shot on our Phones(sorry for the poor quality).

Production Update from Josh Turner on Vimeo.

If you look closely you will see how many little features are required on the interior of the parts to create a product that is free of any seams. It was a legitimate challenge in the design process to capture everything internally. The nested tension mechanism and clamping arms all all fit inside the two halves that are joined with a dovetail groove that creates an insanely smooth rotational operation. This is a photo of the prototypes so you can see just how detailed the internals are. Every little cut and feature is created for specific purposes.

Zero is on it's way to being in your hands and we can't wait to see the amazing things you will create with our gear.

Happy Shooting

OK Go & Challenging the Status Quo

OK Go & Challenging the Status Quo

Ok Go released their new music video this morning for their song "The One Moment" and we at Broken Anchor Design are seriously impressed! While many pop music video's seem to operate within the usual framework of lip syncing to the music, in some predictable setting with a broadway musical-esque band of backup singers and dancers, OK Go has stepped outside the box to challenge conventional creativity.

In their Behind The Scenes video they talk about the meaning of the song being about living within a single moment, and how they wanted to capture the essence of that in their video. The entire video is shot in literally a single moment, about 4-5 seconds. The video is likely shot with a PhantomFlex at well over 1000fps, attached to large robotics arm and sequenced to ultra-precise movements. The footage is then played back and a standard frame rate to match the song's length. The super slow-motion is contrasted against things like the flip book in the opening scene which creates a juxtaposition between a real-time experience and the surreal framework of slow motion. The result is a cinematic masterpiece.

At Broken Anchor Design we admire one thing above all else, creative thinking! Our vision as a company is to create amazing things, for the people, who create amazing things. While our product was not used in this production, OK Go has given us those goosebumps of excitement, that constantly remind us of exactly why we love doing what we do; so that those out there willing to challenge convention and do something different, can do so!

BONUS: While we are on the subject of creative filmmaking, we should mention that this isn't the first time OK Go has stepped outside conventional thinking to make an amazing music video. Check out last years visual mind bender for "Upside Down & Inside Out" while you're at it.
